July 20, 2025July 26, 2025 Was that plastic in the Tesla Car really Greta’s? Share The internet really loves to tear people down — and it often doesn’t even care if the story is true. Recently I came across a YouTube video titled “Greta Thunberg called out for plastic car?” (link here). The video shows someone walking around a black Tesla that, according to them, belongs to Greta Thunberg. The person filming zooms in on what looks like garbage in the car — plastic bottles, cups, and other bits — and loudly claims this proves that Greta is a hypocrite. That’s the whole video. No proof that the car is actually hers. No footage of her driving it, unlocking it, or even being near it. Just a car with stuff in it and someone insisting it must be hers because… reasons. And, of course, the comments section was full of people celebrating their supposed “gotcha moment.” Calling her a fake, a fraud, saying “I knew it!” and making fun of her for supposedly fighting climate change while sitting in a car that has plastic and trash in it. I left this comment: Is this channel satire? Cause it sounds like this channel may be just trying to get a rise out of people cause how do you even know that’s her car? How about we get proof before we get people’s opinions and start saying things. If you can share something substantial, then I’d like the video. You can’t just make someone look bad just cause it sounds like an interesting subject for a video. You make yourself look bad. Think for your own people! And I stand by it. i stand by it How Do You Even Know That’s Her Car? Seriously — how? There was no shot of Greta getting into the car. No license plate that could be traced to her. No context, no background. Just some random Tesla parked somewhere with trash in it. Even if you hate Greta, you have to admit: it’s pretty weak evidence. And yet dozens of commenters ran with it as though it was absolute truth. Nobody stopped to ask: How do we know that’s her Tesla? How do we know she even owns a car at all? (By the way, she’s been clear in the past that she rarely drives and prefers public transport when possible.) Even if she does ride in a Tesla — it’s one of the least polluting car options available today. And even if she does sometimes end up using plastic — what’s your alternative? The world is full of plastic because corporations still produce it at massive scale. It’s not hypocrisy to live in the world we have while fighting for a better one. Is This Channel Even Serious? That’s the other question I raised in my comment. Is this channel satire? Because it really felt like it was just trying to get a rise out of people. The tone of the video was exaggerated and mean-spirited — more interested in scoring points than making a legitimate point. There’s a whole genre of content creators now who make their money by inventing outrage. They pick a person — usually a woman, often an activist — and try to catch them in a “hypocritical” moment. Then they post a shaky video, slap a sensational title on it, and rake in views. It’s lazy. And it’s cruel. I have my own opinions about Greta but I really don’t think trying to make her look bad for something we don’t really know she actually did, especially if it’s coming for her whole cause is very nice. Proof First, Opinions After What really frustrates me is how quick people are to believe something just because it seems like it could be true. Even if you’re skeptical of Greta, don’t you want evidence before you pile on? I said it in my comment and I’ll say it again: How about we get proof before we get people’s opinions and start saying things? If you can share something substantial, then I’d like the video. You can’t just make someone look bad just cause it sounds like an interesting subject for a video. You make yourself look bad. Think for your own people! We all need to stop rewarding this kind of lazy smear. We can disagree with someone’s politics without fabricating reasons to hate them. What We Should Do If you see a video like this, take 10 seconds to ask:– Is there evidence?– Is the source credible?– Could there be context I’m missing?– Would I want someone to treat me this way? We don’t have to like everyone we see online, but we should at least be fair. Making up a narrative and trashing someone over a random car full of garbage — without proof it’s even theirs — just makes you look bad. You end up looking petty, bitter, and gullible. If the video creator really does have evidence it’s Greta’s car, they should show it. Until then? Stop treating this kind of content like gospel. Closing Thoughts Being mean might feel good in the moment, but it accomplishes nothing. If Greta Thunberg really did something inconsistent with her values, let’s have that discussion with facts. Not with made-up stories designed to humiliate. Because when you spread unproven accusations, you’re not hurting her as much as you’re hurting yourself — and all of us — by making the world a nastier, lack-of-credibility-place. Think for your own people. And remember: being mean isn’t very nice — especially when you don’t even know what you’re talking about. #Rant #beingnice #GretaThunberg #opinion Please leave this field empty Subscribe to my newsletter for post updates, current events, and travel tips!
